Cantor Michelle Teplitz
The journey that brought Cantor Teplitz to Marlboro Jewish Center began more than 25 years ago when her childhood cantor asked her to sing with him on the High Holidays. From then until her ordination in 2010, it seemed like only a matter of time until Cantor Teplitz would bring her love of Jewish music and nusach to the bima.
A trained vocalist, Cantor Teplitz is a graduate of the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford where she received her degree in Music Education and was a co-founder of L’Shir, the first Jewish a capella group at UH.
After a career teaching music in both public and private schools, Cantor Teplitz decided to pursue her cantorial career at Gratz College in Philadelphia. While there she had the honor of learning from and collaborating with some amazing mentors including Marcia Edelman, Saul Wachs, Cantor Arlyne Unger and Hazzan Alisa Pomerantz Boro.
Cantor Teplitz has been blessed to be a part of several amazing Synagogues. Including Congregation Beth El in New London, Connecticut, Congregation B’nai Jacob in Woodbridge, Connecticut, Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Bridgeport, Connecticut New City Jewish Center in New City, New York and now here at Marlboro Jewish Center. She is passionate about making Judaism accessible, meaningful, and spiritually fulfilling to all who want to embrace it. She also enjoys finding new and exciting ways to engage people in the beautiful music of our faith and hopes to continue to bring those opportunities to our Congregation.
Cantor Teplitz is joined in gratitude for the wonderful community at MJC by her husband Ari and their children Amalya and Elijah, who can usually be found running the halls of the Synagogue on Shabbat morning.
